Based on his original flying log books and other documentation, a biography of the WW2 experiences of Hawker Hurricane and Typhoon fighter pilot Bob Allen who enlisted in 1940 at age 19 with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve (RAFVR) and went on to serve with No 1 Squadron, then based in West Africa with 95/128 Squadron before returning to Europe in December 1942. He served with 197 Squadron and then as Flight Commander of 266 Squadron which was to play a key role in the D-Day air operations of 6 June 1944, following which he was shot down over enemy lines on 25 July 1944 and became a prisoner-of-war, escaping from the Luckenwalde camp (then under Russian control) in April 1945.
