The WW2 memoirs of the former Marshal of the Royal Air Force (MRAF) in which he relates in detail his personal experiences of the conflict over North Africa serving as Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief Middle East and Air Commander-in-Chief Mediterranean and then subsequently as Deputy Supreme Commander for ‘Overlord’ which culminated in the Allied landings in Normandy on 6 June 1944 (D-Day).

The personal experiences of a RAF aircrew member who after baling out from his burning Lancaster bomber was then to spend a year evading capture in occupied France during WW2 are vividly recalled in these memoirs.

A detailed day-by-day account of Operation Dynamo – the mass evacuation of 338,226 men (around two-thirds of whom were British) from the French coastal town of Dunkirk during 26 May–4 June 1940. Concluding appendices record the names of all the 848 British, Polish, Dutch, Belgian and French ships, vessels and boats involved in one of the most major operations of WW2.

A biography of one of the leading airmen of WW2 who, after serving with RAF No 99 Bomber Squadron and subsequently the Czech 311 Squadron, was to fly many clandestine missions for the Special Operations Executive (SOE) but later died on 18 February 1944 during a daylight raid on a prison at Amiens while flying the de Havilland Mosquito ‘F for Freddie’ of 21 Squadron.
